Art Concept - My name is not mum.
The idea for this work originated from a conversation with a friend of Nicola Smith a Neurodivergent Artist who was fed up with always being referred to as ‘mum’ instead of by their actual name. Nicola is a mum and many other things, one identity does not completely define who people are.
In 2018 Nicola executed this concept as an artwork, producing a name badge an exact replica of one that you would wear to identify yourself. This went on to become an artists’ edition of 50 and inspired the idea of creating a range of merchandise where the concept became the brand and the badge its identity. The my name is not mum graphic has since gone on to be trademarked by Trademarks for You.
